killed for a few thousand dollars. sha mary stone has reaction from the victim's family. >> just -- just shock. >> reporter: it's the moment christine brown has waited more than a month for. prince george's county police arrested man they say killed her daughter, shivon phillips. >> i'm happy they caught him. >> reporter: police say her boyfriend, joseph jones, killed her for around $3,800 in cash. shivon was going to use the money to buy a car at an ouction in fredericksburg, virginia. >> the motive we believe is robbery. >> reporter: this video shows her hours before the murder helping her 2-year-old daughter out of a minivan. shivon and joseph jones drove to fredericksburg but they never made it to the auction. police say he killed her. >> her life is worth more than that. i mean -- my daughter is a kind person. >> reporter: investigators tell me they tracked joseph jones' cell phone records to this home

70-year-old madeline bedwell is charged with being an unfit owner. strong storms in louisville, kentucky, produced more than 22,000 lightning strikes in half an hour. now that system's headed our way. storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug cameron tells us what we can expect. >> out there right now, a very warm and humid atmosphere. we've seen in the last couple of days. 78 right now. dew point of 70. a heat index of 80. it's not going to take a lot to produce strong storms. tomorrow we're going too see them as severe storms making their way through the area. nothing right now as far as radar is concerned. all dry at the moment. it will be dry when you wake up. look pack to the west. we're looking at this dangerous line of thunderstorms, severe thunderstorm watches in effect from central portions of ohio all the way in towards northern portions of mississippi and around the memphis area. big-time thunderstorms making their way our way and they will get here just in time for maximum daytime heating. what does that mean, when will these storms blow through?

i'll show you coming up. both presidential campaigns are working to spin the disappointing jobs report released today. employers added just 96,000 new jobs in august, far fewer than experts' predictions of 125,000. those numbers are down sharply from july. economists say we need at least 200,000 new jobs added every month to reduce the unemployment rate. this report comes at the start of a two-month sprint to election day. both president obama and mitt romney campaigned in new hampshire and iowa today. romney is selling the new job numbers as proof the president's policies aren't working. he also started a new commercial blits in battleground states today. the president defended his economic record saying the economy was losing jobs by the hundreds of thousands when he took office. he believes the numbers show progress but admits it's slower than he'd like. mitt romney will campaign in virginia tomorrow. today his wife ann romney hosted a vote for mitt rally in

leesburg. the goal is to draw more female voters to the gop ticket. while in leesburg mrs. romney sat down for a one-on-one interview. >> i really hope that americans and virginians in particular have a really serious thought and say, you know, this guy is very competent, he's a good person. he's done a lot of the turnarounds in his life. let's give him the keys to this car and see whether he can't get this engine going. >> mrs. romney said she didn't watch the president's speech last night because she needed rest for today's campaign appearance. she did watch excerpts today, she said. romney will campaign in virginia beach and virginia tomorrow. a huge turn fout for stephen strasburg's last home start of the season after heated debate whether to shut him down. the game turned into an extra-innings nail-biter. carol maloney with more. >> fans who came to the park to see stephen strasburg dominate one last time left disappointed.

to the ground at gunpoint before robbing him. the pastor admits the robbery was a shock but says their work will not change. >> our doors will remain open. and that is our mission. and if we were ever to have to close our doors for fear, we might as well just close them forever. >> the suspect made off with the victim's iphone and wallet. police are still looking for him. a love triangle is to blame for grounding a flight from philadelphia to dallas. the plane was forced to turn around this week after police got a call claiming passenger chris shell was carrying liquid explosives. fbi officials determined that the call was a hoax. shell pointed the finger at another man, kenneth submit. today police arrested smith, who admitted to making the call in an act of revenge after shell posted a compromising picture of his girlfriend on facebook. if convicted, smith faces up to ten years in prison. thinking of waking up early tomorrow to go to a garage sale or estate sale?

for sure. i do think we're going to see a pretty good chance of that. 78 now with winds out south at 9 miles per hour. as far as the temperatures go, we're on the mild side. 79 in leesburg. 72 in culpepper. 74 fredericksburg. 75 on the river. nothing on the radar yet except in the west. this is a very strong line of thunderstorms right now. numerous severe thunderstorm watches. the yellow boxes are all severe thunderstorm warnings. there have been a couple of tornado warnings out here. that will translate our way during the day tomorrow. the storm prediction center has our area and a flight risk for severe weather. we'll get strong thunderstorms, 30% chance those will come severe. to the north, philadelphia, portions of new york, northeastern portions of maryland, we're talking about a moderate risk. that's a very significant risk. upwards of 50% risk those storms will turn severe. you want to watch out along the i-95 corridor tomorrow. we'll be watching this line closely. nice and warm weather as far as

that is concerned out ahead of it. we only need that trigger. the trigger comes with a very strong frochbl boundary. that front is going to move through and it's going to give us that chance of storms. as it does it's going to produce a couple of things. severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall. i'm not worried about flooding. it's only a 30-minute event, not a long-lived rain event. damaging winds is going to be the problem. we could have bouned trees, power lines too. here's the good news, this is a strong front. it's going to bring strong storms, then usher in some of the nicest air we have seen in some time. sunday, monday, tuesday, most of next week looking fantastic. starting tomorrow at 7:00 a.m., no rain tomorrow morning early. watch what happens right around noon. we're still dry, even through 1:00 here. then here comes the line. racing in from the west. and right around 5:00, 7:00, that's when i expect it to be right along the i-95 corridor. a little sooner to the west. a little later to the east.

you want to keep an eye to the sky if you see dark clouds coming, you hear thunder, go inside. it should clear the entire area by around 9:00 tomorrow night. then we can start to settle down. once again, could produce some damage. we want to watch outer for that. high clouds tomorrow morning, a nice start. temperatures 64 to 72. any games that you have tomorrow, even the nats game at 1:00, will have no problem getting in. you may be leaving, however, when storms do move in. increasing clouds with possible severe storms tomorrow and damaging winds. high temperatures into the mid 80s. like i said, we get through those storms tomorrow and look at the nice weather coming our way. one of the best stretches of weather we have seen in probably a couple of months. we need it. we'll get nice and cool as we start next week. >> we've earned it. >> and we're going to earn it tomorrow too. just be prepared for those storms. coming up in sports, doug, you were there. stephen strasburg's arm didn't
